About the Course

Description:

This 3-hour course prepares Licensed Midwives to recognize and safely manage shoulder dystocia in the home birth setting. It reviews risk factors, warning signs (including the turtle sign), and the physiology of impaction, then walks step by step through the maneuver sequence, McRoberts, suprapubic pressure, Gaskin/all-fours, internal rotational maneuvers (Rubin II, Woods screw, reverse Woods), and posterior arm delivery, with an emphasis on timing, team communication, when to escalate, and postpartum care of mother and newborn. Instruction is asynchronous and self-paced and includes video lectures, a guided virtual 3D simulation in which learners must perform the maneuvers in sequence, case reports, practice exercises, and quizzes; an 80% score on the post-test is required for credit.
