Description:


This 2-hour continuing education course is designed for midwives who are engaged in clinical teaching, precepting, or academic instruction. It focuses on evidence-based teaching strategies, adult learning principles, and best practices for delivering midwifery education in a variety of settings including birth centers, hospitals, and classroom environments. Participants will learn how to foster critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and professional development in midwifery students and new practitioners. The course emphasizes the integration of curriculum planning, assessment techniques, feedback strategies, and effective communication to optimize learning outcomes and ensure safe, competent midwifery practice. Topics include: Principles of adult learning and learner-centered education Designing and implementing effective lesson plans and clinical teaching sessions Strategies to assess student performance and provide constructive feedback Promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and clinical reasoning Mentorship, preceptorship, and supporting professional growth Managing challenging learner behaviors and fostering a positive learning environment Incorporating technology and simulation in midwifery education Instruction is delivered through recorded video lectures, case studies, and interactive self-assessment quizzes. Participants must achieve a passing score of 80 percent on the final quiz to earn continuing education credit.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:


  1. Apply adult learning principles to midwifery education in clinical and classroom settings.

  2. Design and implement effective lesson plans and teaching sessions that promote safe and competent practice.
