About the Course
Description:
This 2 hour continuing education course is required for all licensed healthcare practitioners in Florida under section 456.013(7), Florida Statutes. It is designed to meet the specific needs of Licensed Midwives by focusing on the prevention of medical errors in maternity and newborn care. The course reviews common sources of errors in midwifery, such as delays in recognizing complications, breakdowns in communication with clients or collaborating providers, improper documentation, medication related issues, and missed opportunities for timely referral or transfer. The course emphasizes systems based approaches and evidence based strategies to prevent errors, improve patient safety, and support high quality midwifery care. Topics include informed consent, use of protocols, recognition of risk factors during pregnancy and labor, safe birth practices in out of hospital and hospital transfer settings, neonatal resuscitation preparedness, and interdisciplinary communication with physicians, nurses, and emergency personnel. Instruction is provided through recorded video lectures, case study discussions, and interactive self assessment quizzes. A passing score of 80 percent on the final quiz is required for course completion.
